1 jar marinara sauce
10 lasagna noodles (8 minute noodles)
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red chili flakes (optional)
2 cups beef broth
1 onion
4 cloves garlic
Basil for garnish
1/2 lb ground beef
2 italian sausages
2 cups mozzarella
1 cup ricotta
Parmesan for topping
Dice your onion, mince your garlic and shred your cheese. Break up your lasagna noodles into quarters. Heat a large pan over medium high heat. Add beef and sausage and break up with a wooden spoon. Add in your onion, 1/2 tsp salt and mix well. Cook through, about 5-7 minutes.
Add your garlic, 1 tsp basil, 1 tsp oregano, 1/2 tsp chili flakes and cook for 1 minute. Add marinara sauce, 2 cups beef broth and your noodles. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently so your noodles don't stick to the bottom. Not all your noodles will submerge so keep pushing them under and mixing while they cook.
While your noodles are cooking, preheat your oven to broil. In a small bowl, mix 1 cup ricotta with 1 cup mozzarella. Once your noodles are cooked through, stir in half of your ricotta mixture. Dollop the remaining ricotta mixture throughout and top with remaining mozzarella. Broil for 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Top with fresh basil and parmesan and serve (it gets even better if you let it sit for 5-10 minutes).
